Casino Gets $25M Renovation

Officials for the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno have announced plans for a $25 million renovation this fall.
The Meruelo Group, the property's new owner says the renovation plan adds a new Mexican restaurant and a country western dance hall. The renovation plans includes changing the casino floor and give a face lift to all 2,000 rooms and suites at northern Nevada's largest hotel-casino.
Reno gaming analyst Ken Adams states the renovation idea will be a positive sign for the struggling property. The Meruelo Group is its seventh owner since it opened as the MGM Grand-Reno in 1978. Meruelo purchased it from Credit Markets Real Estate Corp. in March for about $42 million. The property last sold for $151 million in 2005.
